You’re probably here because you clicked through from one of social media posts, right? In our always-on world where information fills the clouds and content is being uploaded every second, the people in charge for plucking content from the information highway have a big responsibility in selecting what information comes our way. This is where David comes in — he’s our new social media & community manager intern.
David is helping with the planning, creation, and distribution of the social media activities at WeAreBrain. Slowly but surely, the plan is for him to become the new voice behind the brand in our main social channels. We want to create a strong community with our current and future clients, as well as with the Brainiac family, and David may very well be the man for the job. So who is behind WeAreBrain’s future social media presence?
David graduated from the University of Amsterdam with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Science which culminated in a 6-month practical internship working at a leading software company in Amsterdam. It was here that David decided to upskill and learn video production to add to his social media content repertoire. “As a social media manager, sometimes you need to be a marketer, writer, photographer, designer or even video editor. Content is at the heart of this job, and I like having the opportunity to challenge my creative skills and use them to convey the right message to the right audience. Social media platforms are constantly evolving, changing people’s preferences in the process. So I’m curious to see what the future is going to look like when it comes to online social content” he says.
David can write, strategise marketing channels, and even film and edit videos. The list seems endless. So what other tricks does he have up his sleeve?
“It’s not a secret to most of my friends, but I’ve been doing some analogue photography for two years now. I picked up an old Olympus camera from 1975, the cheapest roll of film I could buy, and I went out to give it a try. For someone like me who grew up in a digital world, there was some novelty about the process that went behind the actual creation of an image with an analogue system. It’s a different approach to what I was used to, and in the meantime, I’ve been growing my camera collection and experimenting with different film stocks. I just hope I don’t get into vinyl or something like that. Shooting film is already expensive so I don’t think I can afford another cool retro hobby”.
David is clearly a man of many talents — just save some for the rest of us, please! He loves drinking green tea every day, listening to good music and taking analogue photographs to capture the world around him in new and interesting ways.
