Meet Paula, our savvy marketeer and communications guru

The mark of any great brand or business is how well they speak to their audience. Indeed, brand identity and brand loyalty are powerful tools for gaining and retaining clients. The role of marketing in any brand or business is to be the mouthpiece for the brand. When clients feel like the brand is a fully-fledged person then it makes communication easier and thus ensures loyalty. So who is tasked with this high-pressure, nuanced job for WeAreBrain? None other than Paula, that’s who!

Paula leads WeAreBrain’s Marketing and Communications efforts, and if you are at all familiar with our brand voice and tone, and brand look and feel, then that is the result of Paula’s determined work behind the scenes. “I have been working close to 20 years in Marketing & Comms. I started off my career working for comms agencies, handling a range of clients: consumer electronics and other tech-focused companies, fashion/lifestyle, sports, FMCG, and UN agencies. I then moved client-side and worked for a company that launches satellites for communications — that really is rocket science! These experiences taught me to handle all types of situations and projects across the globe, but more importantly to be curious and open about what’s around me, and to easily dive into and absorb a new topic” she says.

To be responsible for being the mouthpiece of our humble tech startup you need to have a lot of guts, determination, and above all, passion. And Paula has passion in abundance, you can feel it in every piece of work she does. “I am passionate about branding, how companies define their image and how they communicate it externally but also internally to their own employees. I love the fact that our industry is ever-changing. With the advent of the digital age, that has opened up opportunities that we could only dream about 15 years ago. And it still changes every day.”

With Paula giving WeAreBrain all she has in the tank on an almost daily basis, she must feel a connection and higher purpose to the brand she serves so well, right? “I love the fact that WeAreBrain is a high tech company, that develops amazing future-focused products, but that it does it with a heart. The clear intention is to positively impact our planet and society, and that is also reflected internally, with extremely open-minded management”.

So what makes our Marketing and Comms whiz tick when she isn’t promoting our brand in new and innovative ways? “I’m a Divemaster, so essentially I can guide groups underwater, looking at beautiful fish and coral. I lived for 3 months in Egypt, on the Red Sea, where I got my qualification and worked. But I’ve dived in quite a few places around the world: Thailand, Australia, Bali, the Caribbean, Maldives,… Also, I used to DJ hip-hop, soul and funk music — many many years ago!”

Wow, we are discovering so many new things about you, Paula! What else have you got to keep our surprise peaking? “Well, I don’t own a TV so my go-to place to stay abreast of what’s going on in the world is BBC News. I can’t sing very well but I wish I could. The three things I could not live without are Italian food & wine, sunshine, and love. And my most important life highlight is my son. Motherhood isn’t easy every day but it teaches you so much about yourself. Plus you get to hang out with a little person that is usually quite cute.”

Thank you for sharing so much about your very interesting life and talents, Paula! We already feel like we know you a lot better after finding out so much about you. We are continually impressed with your amazing Marketing and Communications efforts and we can’t wait to see what you have in store in the coming months!
