Introducing Denis, our newest space-loving DevOps Engineer

When you already have an ace team of Brainiacs jam-packed with creative visionaries and tech wizards, and you add one more to the mix for good measure, what is the result? A stronger and more dynamic team. In this case, the new dynamo to the Brainiac team comes in the form of our newest DevOps extraordinaire, Denis.

Denis is tasked with the responsibility of being our right-hand DevOps man and key contact for our client Maxeda DIY Group. Maxeda is a market-leading DIY retailer operating 389 stores across the Benelux, and employing over 7000 people. If you regularly follow any WeAreBrain-related news, you will already know that we have worked with Maxeda for many years, creating innovative products for them such as their mobile application and their website. Denis will be our man-on-the-ground who ensures that all features and applications are deployed across the full body of Maxeda-related projects. Although Denis recently joined the team, we know that he is more than up to the task of continuing our long-standing collaborative relationship with Maxeda through his DevOps mastery.

Denis’s education began in science, where he studied space physics before moving on to learning how to become a Daemon developer. He then found his calling as a Python developer and later DevOps, working at numerous notable companies before becoming a Brainiac. In between his jump from space physics to DevOps, Denis trained and worked as a military serviceman. Is there anything he can’t do?!

“I have always been fascinated with the IT world. From a young age, I would often wonder how programmes worked and endeavoured to learn more about the mechanics behind them. So it has always been my dream to walk the IT path” he says. That is the kind of IT-related passion we love to hear, Denis! And Denis’s passion for his craft is evident in the work he presents.

It’s not often that you come across a DevOps wizard with a military service background. There are probably a handful in the world, and naturally one of them now works at WeAreBrain. We’re constantly trying to shift perspective, even in the quality of people we hire. “Some people may find it interesting that I am a DevOps nerd with a passion for the outdoors and physically demanding activities, such as the military. These two things don’t often go together. But for me, it is completely natural. My military training helps me stay disciplined in my work”.

Denis also loves music, particularly that of 70s rock ‘n roll. If he could go back in time to attend one event he would want to attend Woodstock 78.

Welcome to the team, Denis! We are happy to have you on board and we are looking forward to seeing how you develop (get it?) into your role in the coming years. Onwards and upwards!
